Valley of the Queens
Like the Valley of the Kings, the Valley of the Queens serves as a burial site for the New Kingdom of ancient Egypt. Although nobility from the New Kingdom also had a place for their tombs here, the majority of those interred in the Valley of the Queens were queens and children of the royal family. There are more than 90 known tombs, each with a sarcophagus chamber, a few small halls, and an entrance tunnel.
Deir el Medina
The craftsmen who built the tombs in the Valley of the Kings lived in Deir el-Medina, also known as the Valley of the Artisans, which is located on the West Bank of Luxor. Amenhotep I (c. 1541–1520 BCE) established the village, which was inhabited during the 19th and 20th Dynasties. A Ptolemaic temple can be seen in Deir el-Medina.
